this is SUNGSANG LEBAM TELAK works. from indonesia:
Sungsang Lebam Telak formed in Bandung, west java, indonesia, in late-2005 and early-2006. it consist of Ageng (vocal, bass, piano, and drum), Gembi (bass, piano), Dani (drum, piano, vocal). there's no such meaning behind the name of the project, unless it draws a sort of dizzy and in-a-mess plus the complexity of anything. this is an open project, anyway. "open" in SLT means every person in the band can give his idea freely (yes, absolutely free) and there are no rejection of the idea. then, every person in the band can choose every instrument that they want to play. further, SLT made a jazz music in indonesia looks like a "snob" or "stupid". because, we, in indonesia feel that Jazz music sounds so "sophisticated", "chic", and so on.
this band concepted their image comprehensively. from the name of the band, the title of the composition (we prefer choose "composition" since we think "song" is less representative word for the band), cover art. in bahasa indonesia (indonesian languange), our title's composition was very intriguing, because it consists of "destructed" grammar on it. yups, we came from literature background academics in here. in every of our gigs, we always read our manifesto that ends with an one magic sentence "musik kalian jelek! musik kami bagus!" (your music is bad, our music is good!). we captured essential film for the cover art. we only want our release looks "elegant" with this image. yeah, elegant plus snob. a mix of perfect image, i think :)
we played a mix of free-improv and free-jazz music. plus a bit of math rock. we played something "mess" in an interesting way. Ageng's vocal substitutes the saxophone instrument, and sometimes, his vocal sounds like a crying baby. Dani's drumbeat was so unpredictable for a jazz music. and then, Gembi's bass playing adapted all of old Blue Note's musicians. with a mix of parody on it, off course. Apparently, all of SLT's composition's was made by jamming methods. And this "Kecuali Mengenang Betismu" is our second release, our first release called self-titled.
